If you’re a fan of dystopian movies or want to experience something extraordinary, “Kalki 2898” is a must-see. This masterpiece from the regional Indian film industry excels in every aspect, from music and VFX to story and acting.
However, I have a few complaints about “Kalki 2898,” as there are areas that could be improved. Despite this, if you enjoy Indian mythological or sci-fi movies, you will absolutely love this project.
While it’s not a Marvel or DC movie, it matches their level in terms of VFX and CGI. Some viewers might find the first half of “Kalki 2898 AD” a bit slow, with a few scenes seeming unnecessary. However, as the movie progresses towards the end of the first half, it starts to captivate you intensely.
The last 40 minutes of the movie will leave you surprised and deeply connected. Elements that seemed boring a few minutes ago suddenly become important. All the dots connect perfectly, and you eagerly anticipate the conclusion.
Storyline of Kalki 2898 AD
“Kalki 2898” is an Indian dystopian movie set in the year 2898. It intertwines the past and present, covering the Mahabharata Yuga and the future of the world. The movie depicts a world in 2898 AD where society is on the brink of collapse, and people struggle for basic needs.
The film explores the curse of Ashwatthama, as detailed in Indian Sanatan holy books. The main plot revolves around Shambala and Complex. The residents of Shambala face severe hardships, while those in the Complex live lavishly.
The protagonist, Bhairava, seeks to earn enough to enter the Complex. He gets an opportunity by capturing Sumathi, who has escaped from the Complex. Meanwhile, Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan) is tasked with protecting Sumathi, leading to clashes between him and Bhairava. The fight scenes between Ashwatthama and Bhairava are a highlight, but the real villain, Supreme Yaskin, has dangerous plans for everyone.
I don’t want to spoil the entire movie, as that would ruin your experience.
Movie Positives and Negatives
Most aspects of “Kalki 2898” are positives that deliver an extraordinary experience. Amitabh Bachchan, as always, delivers one of the best performances of his career. Prabhas also impresses with his acting. His character’s humor is well-executed, and he handles serious moments efficiently.
Supreme Yaskin, played by Kamal Haasan, doesn’t get much screen time, but he impresses whenever he appears.
The VFX and CGI of “Kalki 2898” are outstanding, especially considering the scope of Indian cinema. Every scene looks real and immersive, providing a Marvel-like experience. Additionally, the background music is a real plus, complementing the good story and concept.
Negatives
This isn’t a paid review, and “Kalki 2898” has its share of negatives. First, the writing for Bhairava’s character is inconsistent; his humor sometimes works, but other times it falls flat. The movie’s first half is a bit slow, and some scenes could be removed for better pacing. Supreme Yaskin, the main villain, doesn’t get enough screen time, and Disha Patani’s character feels completely unnecessary.
Overall, we give “Kalki 2898” 4 out of 5 stars.
