The atmosphere was set for the 2024 BET Awards, and everyone was two hundred percent excited for the night. Unfortunately, Normani missed the event at the last minute due to an injury.
The 2024 BET Awards successfully concluded on Sunday, June 30 at Peacock Theater. The event achieved the height of excitement and thrill under the hosting of three-time Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson.
When everyone was excited about the fun and surprising awards distribution, “Worth It” singer Normani missed the arena. She got injured during rehearsals and was forced to cancel her performance.
She shared a photo of her bandaged leg on Instagram and informed fans about the unfortunate injury before 2024 BET awards.
What happened to Normani?
Normani’s Instagram post read, “I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone, believe me. I wanted to get on here and give you guys an update, letting you know that while in rehearsals for BET, I had a really bad accident and injured myself.”
She also revealed her doctor’s advice to rest in order to recover soon. “I am normally good for powering through under any circumstance, but unfortunately, due to my doctor’s orders, I am just not able to make this performance happen. I desperately wanted to give you my best on that stage, but performing would delay my healing.”
She added, “I have been going through my process and doing my best to make sense of my feelings regarding this. I am devastated and hate feeling like a disappointment to you, but I have to focus on recovering at this time. Trust me, I hear you, and I see you. There is nothing more that I wanted to do than perform for you and also get back to doing what fulfills me most—BEING ON STAGE. Thank you so much for understanding. Sending my love to BET for giving me and all of the other beautiful black women this opportunity.”
Normani concluded with a big apology to fans, “This is definitely NOT how I envisioned this weekend but best believe I will be championing everyone from home tonight. I’m sorrrrrrrrry guys and love you so much.”
BET 2024 awards Lineup
In addition to Normani, the 2024 BET awards lineup includes several stars from different fields. The event featured Megan Thee Stallion, YG Marley, Ice Spice, Latto, Keke Palmer, Childish Gambino, Victoria Monét, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, and more.
Shaboozey, Tyla, and Chloe also participated in the 2024 BET lineup.
SZA won this year’s Black Entertainment Television award, while Usher received the Best Male R&B/pop Artist award.
