Boxing Day

December 26 is also celebrated as Boxing Day in the United Kingdom, United States, and many other regions globally. Mainly because of its name, people associate this day with sports events. However, this is not true. Boxing Day originated from the era when rich people used to pack gifts to share with poor people.

People celebrate this day by distributing gifts and things needed among the poor and needy people. Apart from this, many big organizations, players, and other top celebrities also help the poor by raising money. Many big sports tournaments are also organized on Boxing Day, and their earnings are used for public welfare.

History of Boxing Day

While the precise origin date of Boxing Day remains unclear, it is commonly believed that the term “Boxing Day” was coined in 1883. The tradition itself emerged from the practice of preparing gifts for individuals or workers who had to remain on duty during Christmas. In a spirit of generosity and appreciation, employers began expressing gratitude to their staff by presenting them with gifts.

Over time, the concept evolved to encompass a broader charitable aspect, gaining global recognition as Boxing Day. The day came to symbolize not only the appreciation of dedicated workers but also a commitment to helping those in need, contributing to its widespread popularity.

Veer Bal Day

December 26 is celebrated as the Veer Bal Day in India. People and the government celebrate this day to commemorate the martyrdom of Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji. This is the first time Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has declared December 26 as the Veer Bal Day or Veer Bal Diwas. 

Veer Bal Day holds immense significance for the global Sikh community. Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th and final Guru of the Sikh community, is honored on this occasion. The day is dedicated to acknowledging and commemorating the profound sacrifices made by Guru Gobind Singh and his sons, emphasizing the enduring spirit of their commitment and devotion.

History of Veer Bal Day

2023 is the first year when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced December 26 as Veer Bal Day. Mr. Prime Minister has taken the step to honor the Sikh community and their sacrifices for the Nation. 

Decembeard Month

In most European countries, the entire December month is observed as the December month. People celebrate this day to raise funds for bowel cancer research and awareness. 

People grow their beards during the entire month of December to spread awareness about bowel cancer and raise funds as well. This way of campaigning and promoting awareness about cancer engages the public easily.
