Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is often accused of spreading falsehoods for the sake of power. He is targeting the opposition with factless speeches and fooling the common citizens of the country.
Indian politics, which has seen many great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and B.R. Ambedkar, is currently facing one of its most challenging times. The legacy of these iconic figures is a far cry from the turmoil and controversy seen in today’s political landscape.
The main face of the world’s biggest political party, Narendra Modi, consistently delivers lies to maintain his position. He defames the opposition with false narratives and propaganda. Mr. Modi claims that no one knew Mahatma Gandhi before the release of the movie Gandhi.
In one of his political speeches, the Indian Prime Minister stated that the I.N.D.I.A. Alliance (a coalition of opposition parties) would steal the properties of Hindus and hand them over to Muslims. This speech was completely based on a false narrative.
Furthermore, during an interview, Mr. Modi claimed to be a messenger of God. He also claimed he was not born in a biological way, which was one of his biggest lies during the election.
In addition, he passed many false statements that we will cover in this blog.
Congress Will Redistribute Private Wealth to Muslims
The Hindu-Muslim divide is an important strategy for the Bharatiya Janata Party (B.J.P.) under the leadership of Narendra Modi. During his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, several people were killed in Hindu-Muslim riots. Modi’s political career has been deeply linked to these riots and religious discrimination.
On April 21, Narendra Modi, while trying to kill two birds with one stone, gave a very controversial statement. During his speech in Banswara, Rajasthan, Modi claimed that Congress planned to seize and redistribute private wealth to Muslims.
He even labeled the minorities “infiltrators” and “those who have more children.” The Indian Prime Minister said, “The gold jewelry of my mothers and sisters is not just a showpiece; it is linked to their self-respect.” He highlights that Congress’ manifesto has provisions to steal the jewelry from Hindus and give it to Muslims.
However, it is nothing more than a white lie. Congress’ manifesto does not contain such provisions.
Muslims Have the First Right to Resources
In a statement during his election campaign, Narendra Modi claimed that Congress leaders believe that Muslims have the first right to national resources.
Indian Prime Minister Modi said in Rajasthan, “Congress’ manifesto says they will take stock of the gold mothers and daughters have, and will redistribute that wealth.” He further added, “Manmohan Singh’s government had said Muslims have the first right to wealth. This Urban Naxal thinking will not spare even the mangal sutras of your mothers and sisters.”
However, this is absolutely false and has been created by distorting the statement given by Manmohan Singh. Mr. Singh never said that only Muslims have the first right to the country’s resources.
During a meeting of the National Development Council in 2006, Singh said, “I believe our collective priorities are clear. Agriculture, irrigation and water resources, education, health, a critical investment in rural infrastructure, and the essential public investment needs of general infrastructure, together with programs for the upliftment of S.C.s, STs, and other backward classes, minorities, and women and children. The components plans for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes will need to be revitalised. We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minorities, are empowered to share equitably in the fruits of development. They must have the first claim on resources.”
So, Mr. Singh did not say to give priority to Muslims only in his statement.
Congress Gave Reservations on a Religious Basis
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spread misleading information during an election campaign on April 24. He claimed that in Karnataka, the Congress has given reservations on the basis of religion through illegal means.
He said, “Through a single notification, it included all Muslim communities in the O.B.C. quota. Congress gave a big part of O.B.C. quota to Muslims in Karnataka.”
This is also a false claim made by Bharatiya Janata Party and its leader Mr. Narendra Modi. In 1962, Congress government included certain castes of Muslims in the list of Other Backward Classes (O.B.C.) in Karnataka. They did not include all castes.
Additionally, the government did not make the decision on the basis of religion. They did it on the recommendation of the R Nagana Gowda commission. The commission was set up to suggest the criteria of classification for all backward communities.
The fun fact is, in 14 territories where Muslim communities are included in the O.B.C. list, it includes Gujarat. In Gujarat state, Narendra Modi served as a Chief Minister and during an interview he highlighted the Muslim reservation as a milestone of his government.
Congress Will Impose Inheritance Tax
During an election campaign on April 24 at Surguja, Mr. Modi claimed that Congress will impose inheritance tax. PM Modi said, “It will even tax the wealth inherited from parents. Your children will not get the wealth that you accumulate, and Congress will snatch it away from you.”
In contrast, the Congress Manifesto makes no such claims regarding the inheritance tax. We found only one line associated with this claim: “We will address the growing inequality of wealth and income through suitable changes in policies.” However, this never means that Congress will snatch rich people’s wealth.
Modi Doesn’t Discriminate Between Hindus and Muslims
One of the funniest statements that the Indian Prime Minister claimed was that he doesn’t discriminate on the basis of religion. Narendra Modi, after filing his election nomination, gave an interview to News 18.
While answering a question, Mr. Modi said that I haven’t discriminated against Hindu-Muslims ever. If I do this, I will not be able to live in public life.
Well, we don’t think there is any need to give clarifications on this claim. If you read this blog, you must have the facts in your mind.
Messenger of God
In the same interview, Narendra Modi claimed himself as a messenger of God. He literally said, “I am convinced that God has sent me with some mission.” He also said that a normal human does not have the kind of energy he experiences in himself.
No One Knew Mahatma Gandhi Before the Release of Gandhi
During an interview with ABP News, the Indian Prime Minister made a silly claim. In a statement, he said, “No one knew about him (Gandhi). Forgive me, but the first time there was curiosity about Gandhi in the world was when the film Gandhi was made.”
Even though the movie was released in 1982, claiming that Mahatma Gandhi was unknown before the movie is a complete falsehood.
Most of the great leaders in history believed that M. Gandhi was their inspiration. Even the British crown was afraid of Gandhi during the freedom movement.
Martin Luther King Jr. admired Gandhi’s non-violent resistance as a model for the American civil rights movement. Albert Einstein praised Gandhi, stating that future generations would scarcely believe such a person ever walked the earth.
Nelson Mandela regarded Gandhi as a significant influence on his fight against apartheid. However, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a critic, describing Gandhi in derogatory terms. Nonetheless, Gandhi’s legacy as a champion of peace and justice remains profound and enduring.
If these great leaders appreciated M. Gandhi, who else was unaware of him?
