Millwall FC Goalkeeper Matija Sarkic Dies at Early Age of 26 

Matija Sarkic joined Millwall FC last year and made 32 appearances for the club. Millwall Football Club announced the shocking news on its social media. 

The football industry is mourning the loss of a talented and rising goalkeeper, Matija Sarkic. He passed away at the early age of 26 due to natural causes.

As per the announcement by the football club, Matija took his last breath early Saturday morning. “Millwall Football Club is devastated to announce that Matija Sarkic passed away at 26”.

The Montenegro Football Association (FSCG) announced that Matija Sarkic died suddenly on Saturday morning. According to FSCG, Sarkic died at his apartment in Budva.

The association further added in their announcement, “His untimely death has caused great pain to the Sarkic family.”

Cause of Death of Matija Sarkic 

The exact cause of death of Millwall FC goalkeeper Sarkic is not confirmed yet. All the announcements being made on his death do not describe any exact cause of death. However, as per sources, he died of natural causes.

Aston Villa, Matija’s first academy, posted on its social media, “Everyone at Aston Villa is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of our former goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.”

They described Matija’s time with Aston, “Matija joined our Academy in 2015 and spent five years with the club, during which time he made his full international debut for Montenegro before departing in the summer of 2020.”

“The thoughts and condolences of all at the club are with his family and friends at this incredibly sad time,” the academy added.

Matija Sarkic Career

Matija Sarkic officially started his career in 2017 with Aston Villa. He played with Aston from 2017 to 2020. He joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and played for them until 2023.

He joined Millwall Football Club in 2023 and was still playing with them. He made 32 appearances for Millwall. Matija played for Montenegro in U17, U19, and U21. In 2019, Matija joined the Montenegro national team.

He earned the EFL Championship Player of the Month award in December 2021 while on loan at Birmingham City, highlighting his growing impact in professional football.
