WPL 2024 got off to a grand start with the match between Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals. MI girls have won the WPL opening match with the fantabulous innings of Yastika Bhatia and skipper Kaur.
The first match of the grand Indian Women’s Cricket League WPL, between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, has concluded. As expected, the opening match was a complete package of thrill and joy.
The girls from both sides played the match with such intensity that it was not the first but the last match. Harmanpreet Kaur’s 55 runs fast inning was the main highlight of this Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals match.
MI vs DC Full Highlights
Mumbai Indians’ captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, won the toss and decided to field first. Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma came to open for Delhi Capitals in this first WPL match.
DC Batting
Delhi Capitals did not start well and lost their star player, Shafali Verma, in the third over. She scored only one run on eight balls and went back to the dressing room on a total team score of 3 runs. Captain Lanning and Alice Capsey handled the situation for DC together and built a good partnership.
Lanning lost her wicket after scoring 31 runs in just 25 balls with the help of one six and three fours. After this, Alice Capsey partnered with Jemimah Rodrigues, taking her team beyond 100.
Capsey, while trying to boost the running rate, lost her wicket on a total of 141 runs. She played a 75-run fast inning and hit three sixes and eight fours. Jemi also played a good inning of 42 runs while facing only 24 balls. Marizanne Kapp and Annabel also contributed to their team with 16 and 1 runs, respectively.
Amelia Kerr and Natalie Sciver Brunt took two wickets each. Shabnim Ismail also got an important wicket.
MI Batting
Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia came to open for Mumbai Indians. Like DC, MI also did not get a good start and lost Matthews early. Hayley scored 0 runs before going back to the dressing room.
After losing one wicket in the very first over, Bhatia and Natalie Sciver Brunt successfully took their team to the score of 50 runs without losing any more wickets. Brunt lost her wicket after scoring 19 runs on 17 balls.
After Brunt, Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur took charge and led their team to over 100 runs. Yastika Bhatia went back to the pavilion with a total team score of 106 runs and a personal score of 57 runs.
Kaur’s 55 and Amelia Kerr’s 24 also helped MI reach the target. However, Sajeevan Sajan was the player who snatched the win from DC by scoring six runs off a single ball.
Arundhati Reddy and Alice Capsey picked up two wickets each for their teams. Kapp and Shikha Pandey also get 1-1 wicket.
