Two former hosts will headline the upcoming episodes of Saturday Night Live with some very talented performers.
SNL has decided to surprise fans in its 49th season as one of the best American late-night live sketch comedy variety shows. Maya Rudolph will host its May 11 episode, and Vampire Weekend will be a musical guest.
In addition, Saturday Night Live will be memorable with a special appearance by Jake Gyllenhaal as show host on May 18. Sabrina Carpenter will perform with Jake.
First Special SNL show
Rudolph was also an SNL cast member for almost seven years, from 2000 to 2007. In addition, she has hosted the Saturday Night Show twice in its history. First, Maya hosted SNL in 2012 with the musical group Sleigh Bells as a guest performer. Second, she joined the show as a host in 2021, with Jack Harlow as a guest performer.
The guest in Rudolph’s show, Vampire Weekend, is currently touring its fifth album, “Only God Was Above Us.” It will be their fourth appearance on SNL.
Second Special SNL show
Jake Gyllenhaal will host the Saturday Night Live season 49 finale on May 18. Sabrina Carpenter will join Jake as the unique guest performer on the show. Jake will also join the show for the third time as host.
He hosted the show in 2007 with the Shins as musical guest and in 2022 with Camila Cabello.
However, Sabrina Carpenter, his partner this year, has no experience with the show; she is coming for the first time. Sabrina has not joined SNL before, not as a performer nor as a guest.
Actor Alec Baldwin holds the record for hosting the highest number of SNL episodes. In 49 seasons of the show, Baldwin has hosted it seventeen times since 1990. However, with sixteen shows as host, Steve Martin lacks only one show to level the record.
SNL was started on October 11, 1975, by George Carlin under the original title NBC’s Saturday Night. The show is a complete package of different kinds of comedy.
