Dani Alves Found Guilty of Sexual Assault and Sent Jail

Dani Alves Found Guilty

The Barcelona court has found Brazilian football player Dani Alves guilty of sexual harassment. A panel of three judges has sentenced him to four years and six months in jail.

Dani Alves has been in jail since he was detained on January 20, 2023. He was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub. Although Alves denied all of the woman’s allegations, the court found him guilty.

Dani and his team still have the right to challenge the Barcelona court’s decision in the higher courts. There is very little chance of him getting a clean chit from the higher court.

Brazilian football player Dani Alves was arrested by the police last year in a sexual harassment case. A woman had accused him of rape in a nightclub in Barcelona. According to the victim and reports, the football player raped her in the bathroom of an expensive nightclub in Barcelona. The identity of victim has not been revealed due to privacy reasons.

Once the matter went public, state police arrested Dani and sent him to jail. He appealed for bail multiple times from the date he was arrested. The court rejected Dani’s appeals for bail due to flight risks.

Dani Alves also denied all the allegations in last month’s court trials. However, according to the Barcelona court’s three-judge panel, he is guilty and will have to spend four years and six months in jail.

What was the demand?

Although the court sentenced him to four years and six months in jail, the state prosecutors were demanding 9 years jail. Lawyers representing the victim lady were asking for a 12 years jail to Dani.

However, Dani Alves’ supporting lawyers, if found guilty, were requesting a one year sentence and 50,000 euros ($54,000).
