Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. Dies at 87 

First black man who won an Academy Award as a supporting actor dies at 87. Louis Gossett Jr., known for his iconic roles in An Officer and Gentleman, also won an Emmy for his role in the TV series “Roots.”

Louis Gossett Junior was the first black man to win an Oscar for supporting actor. He passed away at the age of 87, leaving the world crying for his iconic roles in different Hollywood movies and TV shows. 

The Academy Award-winning actor died early in dramatically different circumstances on Friday in Santa Monica, California. Gossett’s cousin Neal L. Gossett revealed the unfortunate news on Friday. However, he did not reveal the actual cause of death. 

Louis Gosset Jr. was the first black man to win an Academy Award for his intimidating Marine drill instructor role in “An Officer and a Gentleman.” He was also the third black man to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Louis Lossett Jr. was an American actor who was born on May 27, 1936. Louis was born in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City. The Academy Award-winning actor started his career with a stage debut at the age of 17. 

The world recognized Louis’ talent when he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for a Single Appearance in a Drama/Comedy Series. Louis Lossett Jr. received the award for his appearance in the miniseries Roots.
