In the 13th match of IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced off against Delhi Capitals (DC). Delhi won the toss and elected to bat. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner provided a solid foundation with a formidable opening partnership of 93 runs. Warner went on to score a half-century for his team.

Captain Rishabh Pant played an exceptional innings, breathing new life into his career with a spectacular performance. DC posted a challenging total of 191 runs on the board, setting CSK a target of 193 runs for victory.

CSK’s chase didn’t begin well, as they lost their first wicket in the form of Gaikwad. Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, and the veteran MS Dhoni contributed with some valuable innings. However, despite their efforts, CSK fell short by 20 runs, handing the victory to DC.

CSK vs DC Match Summary 

In the 13th match of IPL 2024, two wicketkeeper-batsmen rediscovered their form in spectacular fashion. DC’s skipper, Rishabh Pant, who had been grappling with a loss of form, finally regained his rhythm. Meanwhile, the ever-cool M.S. Dhoni, who had been hesitant due to performance pressure, silenced his critics by smashing four towering sixes, reclaiming his confidence in style.

Rishabh Pant won the toss at the Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam and opted to bat first for Delhi Capitals. Opening with Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, Delhi began their innings steadily, forming a solid foundation without losing any wickets, amassing a total of 93 runs. 

Warner showcased his prowess with three towering sixes and five boundaries, crafting a fifty off just 35 deliveries, ultimately scoring 52 runs for Delhi Capitals. Prithvi Shaw complemented the onslaught with a brisk innings, scoring 43 runs from 27 balls, which included two sixes and four boundaries.

Following Warner’s departure, Rishabh Pant assumed control of the innings, initially taking his time before unleashing his power-packed strokes. Pant accumulated 51 runs off a mere 32 deliveries, featuring three sixes and four boundaries, bolstering Delhi’s total. Shaun Marsh also chipped in with a valuable 18 runs, aiding Delhi Capitals in reaching a respectable total of 192 runs.

Matheesha Pathirana got the highest three wickets for Chennai Super Kings. 

CSK batting 

Chennai did not get a good start and lost two early wickets. Both opening batsmen went back at a total score of 7 runs. Gaikwad went back on one, and his partner Rachin followed him after scoring 2. 

Ajinkya Rahane played well to push out the team from the pressure of initial two wickets. However, no CSK batsmen looked that confident to chase the score. Rahane with 45 runs on 30 balls and Daryl Mitchell with 34 runs on 26 balls tried to bounce back. 

However, once Ajinkya and Mitchell got out, no one took the responsibility. The impact player Shivam Dube also failed against Mukesh. Ravindra Jadeja played 21-run innings, but it was too slow.

In the end, when everyone drops their sword, MS takes charge. He was hitting like a 20-year-old player. Even though chennai lost the CSK vs. DC match, fans got what they were expecting. Dhoni came in the 17th over and started his game. He took only 16 balls to score 37 runs (with over 200 strike rate). However, even after MSD’s three sixes and four boundaries, CSK lost the match.

Mukesh Kumar got a maximum of three wickets for Delhi Capitals.
