On December 1, Vicky Kaushal’s much-awaited film, Sam Bahadur, hit the theaters, competing with Vanga’s Animal. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the biopic is based on the life of India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw. Gulzar’s dual role as the film’s director and screenwriter is notable, commanding both aspects of this cinematic venture. 

In this 2-hour and 30-minute cinema, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zishan Ayyub, and Neeraj Kabi are in the leading roles.

Meghna Gulzar, known for hits like Talvar and Raazi, is back with the 50-year-old life story of Indian Field Marshal Manekshaw. Vicky Kaushal has given a powerful performance supporting the powerful message of the film. Meghna has skillfully mixed humor into the story, although the overall story is profound and thought-provoking.

Vicky Kaushal has once again demonstrated his ability to embody the essence of any character in Sam Bahadur. His impeccable acting, nuanced dialogue delivery, and impressive body language significantly enhance the cinematic experience. The supporting cast, including Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, and Zeeshan Ayyub, also deliver commendable performances, contributing to the film’s overall excellence.

Story Line 

The film focuses on the ups and downs of Manekshaw’s professional life, focusing on the battlefield. Although it briefly highlights Shaw’s personal life, it is primarily a war-centric film. As our lead character interferes with some political decisions, the film also hints at the complex relationship between politics and the military. Meghna has also used these scenes skillfully to highlight Manekshaw’s influence and power. However, the movie successfully balanced all the aspects without creating any political chaos. 

With much to cover, Meghna opts for a straightforward approach to conclude the story. She swiftly addresses the crucial wars where Manekshaw wasn’t present, using a radio news snippet. From World War II to the India-Pakistan conflicts, the movie briefly glimpses these wars before reaching its conclusion.

This Sam Bahadur review is incomplete without writing about the film’s background music. The music is excellent and fits with the visuals as per our vision.

As per a report by NDTV, Sam Bahadur has took a good opening of 6.25 crore in India. This openings is fine because as per the reports, Sam Bahadur’s budget is about 55 to 60 crore.

Pros of Sam Bahadur 

Realistic Battle Scenes: Sam Bahadur’s battle scenes look natural and enjoyable. Meghna’s decision to shoot on the actual field was outstanding. 

Vicky Kaushal: We have started this review with the title, Sam Bahadur Review: A Vicky Kaushal’s film. This is because of their strong performance by him; his performance in the movie is a big plus. 

Story & Patriotism: The choice to tell the story of an Indian Army officer was a delightful move by the makers. As cinema critics, we appreciate stories that not only entertain but also serve as a means to educate the next generation about our national heroes.

Cons of Sam Bahadur 

While there isn’t much to criticize about Sam Bahadur, its first half could have been more paced and engaging. Additionally, Fatima Sana Sheikh’s acting appears a bit dull at certain points in the movie. Some scenes also deviate from the real-life stories of Sam Manekshaw, which might be considered a drawback for the film.

In summary, this is a must-watch movie for one time. However, you are free to go with your own choice.
