Tips to balance health and enjoying the winter holidays

The winter holidays is filled with fun, laughter, joy, and the company of close ones. However, it may also be a time of overstimulation and stress. It’s vital to prioritize overall health during this most busy time of year to completely enjoy the festivities without compromising emotional, mental, social, physical, and spiritual wellness. Making daily habits is a vital way to enjoy a more balanced and healthier winter holiday season.

Habits to balance health during the winter holidays

Here are a few simple habits that makes you healthy during the winter holidays-

Drink water

Drinking water is the most essential part of our lives whether it’s summer or winter. Our body needs enough water as it provides hydration. Winter holidays can be a perfect time for hot tea, soup, and hot cocoa. You can take water in the form of these tasty drinks.

While hot beverages can be best for warmth, remember to keep it balanced with a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily. A glass of water with and between meals may keep you healthy, hydrated, and ready to fight off any germs the seasonal holiday may bring.

Limit sweets and sugary foods

Cakes, cookies, donuts, fudge- sweets seem to take over the winter holidays. You should limit these foods to maintain your blood sugar. Limiting sugar doesn’t mean you need to cut off from them. You can allow yourself a small treat on a daily basis, such as one small candy versus four. Practice mindful eating by taking pleasure in each bite. You can make it more special by sharing cookies and dessert with others or presenting it up nicely with some pomegranate arils or mint.

Sleep properly

Do not avoid the value of quality sleep. As we know, the holiday can make us lazy, and we don’t follow any routine. We must sleep on time, even on holidays. Always prioritize getting 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep daily. Before sleeping, avoid electronics, and keep your room dark and cool.

Give priority to mental well-being

The holidays can be stressful, and it’s vital to give priority to mental health during this busy occasion. You should make time for stress management and relaxation activities, such as yoga, mindful meditation, or breathing exercises. You may also try to prioritize social activities and connections that make you happy. If you are feeling overwhelmed or facing anxiety or depression, you must seek medical attention.

Limit alcohol consumption

Drinking alcoholic beverages can be a big part of holiday celebrations, but you should be mindful of how much you are taking. Drinking more amount may contribute to dehydration, and it may also impact your behavior and mood. If you are going to consume alcohol, make sure to sip water between drinks, and do not drive under the influence.

Practice hygiene

Practicing good hygiene is more essential than ever as holidays also bring with them an enhanced risk of illness. Clean your hands properly, and make sure to cover your nose and mouth area when sneezing or coughing. You should also be at home if you are feeling sick to avoid transferring illness to other people.

By following these tips, you may enjoy the winter holiday season while prioritizing your health. You should take care of yourself, both mentally and physically, and not be afraid to ask for help whenever you need it.
