His family shared the sad news via Instagram. They wrote, “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Betts family announce the peaceful passing of Forrest Richard, Dicky Betts, at the age of 80 years old.”
However, the family did not disclose the cause of death in their post. However, according to the family members, Dickey Betts was with his family when he died. They added, “The legendary performer, songwriter, bandleader, and family patriarch passed away earlier today at his home in Osprey, FL., surrounded by his family. Dickey was larger than life, and his loss will be felt worldwide.“

Dickey was known for his all-rounder skills in music. In addition to being a star guitarist, he was a great singer and songwriter. He was one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers Band.
Initially, he collaborated with Duane Allman and proved how two rock guitarists can work together. Dickey wrote, sang, and even composed many hit and super-hit songs in his career.
Dickey Betts was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He also won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance with the Band in 1996. In addition, he was ranked 58 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list in 2003.
