Neither SKY Nor Hardik. Who will lead India against Afghanistan?

Who will lead India against Afghanistan

India and Afghanistan are going to face each other in a 3-match T20 series from 11 to January 17. While the visitors are ready to arrive, India is still without a captain. The burning question for every Indian cricket fan is who will lead India against Afghanistan.

The India vs Afghanistan T20 series is scheduled to take place from January 11 to January 17 across three different Indian venues. Although the grounds are almost ready to host the last T20 series before the start of the T20 World Cup, the Indian captain has still not been revealed.

The former Indian T20 captain, Hardik Pandya, was already recovering from an ankle injury. At the same time, the part-time captain Surya Kumar Yadav was also injured during the last T20 against South Africa. Initially, it was expected that Surya would lead the Indian 11 against Afghanistan. However, recent reports have ruled out Surya Kumar playing in the upcoming series.

According to reports, Indian Mr. 360 will not be a part of the team against Afghanistan. The purpose of this management decision is to give Surya full time to recover from his ankle injury.

Who will lead India against Afghanistan?

No official announcement has been made regarding India’s captain against Afghanistan. However, various reports are suggesting several names for the role.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma would be the best fit for captaincy in the upcoming India vs Afghanistan series. He is the regular captain of Indian ODI and test teams. Before Hardik Pandya took over the post, Rohit Sharma led the Indian T20 team.

With the T20 World Cup around the corner, there is a strong possibility of Rohit Sharma leading India. The team management may opt to give Sharma a few T20 matches before the mega event begins. Apart from this, a recent statement by a BCCI official has also indicated that Rohit Sharma will take charge of the team.

Ravindra Jadega

Ravindra Jadeja stands as the second-highest possibility to lead Team India against Afghanistan. His strong candidacy is supported by the fact that he served as the vice-captain in the last India vs. South Africa T20 series. According to formal rules, the vice-captain assumes leadership in case the captain is unavailable due to injury or any other reasons.

Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja previously led Team India when Surya Kumar Yadav was injured in the last T20 match. Therefore, the high probabilities suggest that Jadeja could potentially lead Team India in the upcoming series.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul might be another choice for Indian selectors to announce as a captain. KL has led team India many times, and the records are also pretty good. He is a wicketkeeper batsman and known for his great decisions like Mahendra Singh Dhoni. KL’s experience as an international cricketer also backs him.
